Inspired by photographer Irving Penn’s series of poppies for Vogue, the work glorifies the beauty of imperfection and irregularity. The intricate petals and stems are executed in batik, an ancient technique dating back to the Egyptians with a tool called a tjanting creating wax relief barriers for color.
The floating eye in the sky adds a unique touch of whimsy to the work.
